In July 2010, the Department of Health published ‘Liberating the NHS: Report of the arm’s-length bodies review’. That report said that the government intended to transfer the regulation of social workers in England to the Health Professions Council.
Since then, the government has published the Health and Social Care Bill, which includes provisions for the transfer of regulation from the GSCC to the HPC. The dates, which are subject to change and legislative approval, are to come into effect as of 31st of July.
